Even Slack has ChatGPT now

It is the latest high-profile app to be embraced as the AI hype continues to sweep the tech industry. OpenAI uses Slack development tools and is available today.

The app can craft messages and summarize conversations and topics, according to Slack. If you have ChatGPT installed, you can click on the thread menu button and select the “Summarize Topic” or “Draft Reply” option. The app will prepare a summary or response that only you can see. You will then be able to share this information.

Slack says the app can also use artificial intelligence to provide answers and insights about any project or topic, similar to a chatbot. She notes that this could be useful when researching best practices or finding a potential new client. Slack notes that ChatGPT can access the platform to train its language models.

Meanwhile, Slack’s parent company, Salesforce, has a generative AI system called Einstein. It includes integration with the technology, but companies that use Salesforce products can take advantage of other third-party AI models through Einstein as well. As such, Salesforce says its customers can “use natural language prompts directly within Salesforce CRM [customer relationship management tools] to create content that constantly adapts to changing customer information and needs in real time.”

In any case, this is another case of generative AI being quickly pushed into more mainstream technology products along with many aspects of it. But hey, at least you won’t have to think about responses to your co-workers’ terrible jokes in Slack DMs.
