GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 531.26 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver version 531.18.
GeForce is incredibly complex software, we have an army of software engineers who are constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are validated in the major engine branches, which are eventually made through a massive QA process and released.
Since we have many changes in check, we usually try to align driver versions with important game or product versions. This process has served us well over the years but it has a huge weakness. Sometimes a significant change can end up making many users sit and wait until we can release the driver.
GeForce Hotfix Driver is our way of trying to get you some of these fixes more quickly. These drivers are the same as the previous version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that achieve this are based partly on your feedback in the driver feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is to handle it quickly. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Driver Hotfix will be removed.
Hotfix drivers are certainly beta, optional, and provided as is. They run through an abbreviated quality assurance process. The only reason they exist is to get you fixes more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to give these things a try.
The HotFix drivers represent a lot of extra work by our engineering teams, and I hope they provide you with value. We’ll give it a try and see if people like the idea and want us to continue.
